Hybrid vs. Electric: Which is Right for You?

2022 Chevy Bolt Electric
We know you’re seeing more and more hybrid and electric cars on Stephenville streets these days. Even some of our most powerful vehicles like the Chevy Silverado and Ford Mustang are offering alternative fuel options. What’s the difference between hybrid cars vs. electric cars? It’s actually pretty simple. Bayer Auto Group breaks it down for you.

Hybrid Cars vs. Electric Cars

Let’s start at the beginning: what’s the difference in hybrid vs. electric?

Hybrid Cars

The new hybrid Ford F-150 Lightning™ is already making tracks around Brownwood, and for good reason: it has all the power of the original with a much smaller environmental footprint and lower fuel costs. That’s because hybrid vehicles are partially powered by a traditional gas engine, with the rest of the power coming from an electric motor. The battery in the electric motor of the Ford F-150 Lightning™ is recharged by plugging it in. Other hybrid batteries are charged by regenerative braking. Both kinds of hybrids still require gasoline. Just not nearly as much.

Benefits: In addition to drastically reducing the amount of gasoline you use, a hybrid recharges quickly. Regenerative braking hybrids don’t require changing any of your fueling habits. You’ll also find that hybrids are generally lower priced than electric vehicles, and easier to find on used lots.

The bottom line: If you drive long distances on a regular basis it’s easier to find fueling for a hybrid than an EV.

Electric Cars

An electric vehicle (EV) like the Chevy Silverado EV doesn’t have a gas-powered motor. It’s powered entirely by a battery that’s larger than the one in a hybrid vehicle. It doesn’t use gasoline or motor oil at all. Instead, you’ll charge your EV at home or at a public charging station.

Benefits: EVs offer a nearly zero emission drive because of the lack of petroleum products, which means you’ll drive around Abilene for less. They’re also less expensive to maintain. While you might pay more for your EV up front, you’ll save with fuel costs and potential incentives, which our finance department is happy to talk about with you. Home charging is simple and convenient—you can do it while you sleep!

The bottom line: Are you looking for an excellent vehicle for driving around Granbury, an EV is ideal for daily driving. That said, longer trips are possible and getting easier, thanks to apps that help you plan your route so you’ll ha ve charger access. Plus, more and more chargers are popping up daily.
