How to Wash a Car

Person Washing Car

If you want to keep your new Ford Explorer looking great, make sure you know how to wash a car and how hand-washing compares to touchless wash. While it’s tempting to run your car through an automatic car wash in Stephenville, doing so runs a small risk of causing damage to your car. Also, when you know how to wash a car by hand, you’re more likely to notice small scratches and dents and can fix them before others notice them. The service center at Bayer Auto Group is here to help you learn how to keep your car clean and maintained, from how to clean leather car seats to how to wash a car.

How Often to Wash Your Car

How often you wash your car will depend on if you’re driving on city streets like the ones in Brownwood or country roads outside of Abilene. For regular city driving, once every two weeks is a good guideline for how often to wash your car. If it gets visibly dirty between washes, you can give it a good rinse.

How to Wash a Car Step-by-Step

Supplies

  • Cleaners: Although it may be tempting to use household cleaners to wash your car, cleansers made for cars will protect your car’s paint from damage. Contact our parts department and get their recommendations on a car wash solution that’s right for your car.
  • Ammonia-free glass cleaner
  • Wheel cleaner
  • Car wax
  • Stiff-bristled brush
  • Soft sponges
  • Plenty of dry microfiber cloths.

Washing

  • Rinse off any debris and the surface dirt from your car.
  • Use wheel cleaner and stiff-bristled brush to scrub the wheels and wheel wells.
  • Lather your car with car soap using a soft sponge. Rinse thoroughly.
  • Use glass cleaner and a dry microfiber cloth to clean the windows and mirrors.

Drying and Waxing
