Car Leaking Water

Why is My Car Leaking Water?

One question we hear a lot from concerned drivers is, “Why is my car leaking water?” Most of the time, you don’t need to worry. Water leaking from under your car is usually a quick and inexpensive fix, and sometimes it’s nothing more than normal condensation in your vehicle’s air conditioning and engine systems. Water might also drip from your tailpipe if condensation has built up in the exhaust system.

Read below to learn more about the difference between normal water leaks, and those you should get checked out. Keep in mind that you can always visit the Bayer Auto Group dealership for expert service!

Identifying the Cause of a Car Leaking Water

If you notice water leaking from under your car, investigate to find the source right away. Follow these steps to check it out:

  • Determine the color. Place a sheet of paper under the leak. Yellow, green, or blue indicates that your car is leaking coolant. Check your vehicle’s coolant level just to make sure. If it’s low, our nearby service center can replace the leaking reservoir.
  • Do you have a blown gasket? Large amounts of water and white smoke coming from your vehicle’s exhaust pipe can be the result of a blown gasket. In this instance, coolant begins to burn along with your fuel. Bring your car in for service ASAP if you see signs of a blown gasket.
  • Is there a wiper fluid leak? Blue liquid leaking near the front tires of your car could be windshield wiper fluid. Cold weather can freeze windshield wiper fluid, which then expands and cracks the fluid reservoir.

You can fix many of the above causes yourself if you know a little about auto maintenance. If you’re more comfortable leaving it to a professional, don’t delay scheduling service at our Brownwood area service center. Waiting may cause small problems to grow into larger ones, which will cost you more in the end.

What Fluid is Leaking From My Car?

If you’re asking yourself, “Why is my car leaking water?” first make sure the leaking liquid is actually water. There are a number of other automotive fluids it could be, so check the color of the leak:

  • Red – Transmission Fluid or Power Steering Fluid
  • Orange – Transmission Fluid or Radiator Coolant
  • Yellow – Radiator Coolant
  • Green – Antifreeze from Water Pump, Hoses, or Radiator
  • Blue – Windshield Wiper Fluid
  • Dark Brown – Brake Fluid or Older Engine Oil
  • Light Brown – Newer Engine Oil or Gear Lubricant
  • Pink – Power Steering Fluid or Transmission Fluid
